Every month, on or about the 20th we get the same message from AT&T. Despite my best efforts, we cut it close every month but so far, no data overages! Here’s a few simple steps to manage and control data usage:
- On you iPhone, open “Settings” and select “Cellular”, scroll down to see your current cellular data usage and to select which applications have access to cellular data. At the very bottom you will see “Reset Statistics”, followed by the date of last reset. At end of each billing period, reseting statistics will allow you to know where you are!
- If the slider is white, you must be on a Wi-Fi refresh the app. If you are having data overage issues, you set non-critical apps to Wi-Fi only. Though my children don’t agree, Netflix and YouTube are non-critical (plus as they are audio + video apps they use a tremendous amount of data!). According the Netflix, “Watching TV shows or movies on Netflix uses about 1 GB of data per hour for each stream of standard definition video, and up to 3 GB per hour for each stream of HD video.” YIKES!
- Set Facebook to use less data by displaying auto-play for videos: https://www.facebook.com/help/community/question/?id=10202634558606616
