Ring/Silent Button (button on left side of phone)

When to use — when you’re at work or in class, or when connected to an external speaker for music, etc.

Turn this to “silent” (red showing) to silence all ringtones & alerts and to put the phone in vibrate mode. Other sounds will play through the phone’s speakers.

Do Not Disturb Mode (crescent moon shows in status bar)

When to use — schedule at night, during yoga, etc. Basically any time you want to only be alerted by calls from select people.

This mode is turned on from either control center or “Settings”. Turn this on to selectively silence calls, alerts and notifications. Settings allow you to receive only calls from “Favorites” or if another number calls several times during a 3 minute window.

Other ways to manage calls & notifications Coming Soon (iOS 13, September 2019):

Selectively mute email notifications from targeted addresses and automatically silence calls from “Unknown” callers, sending them directly to voice mail.
